get the {COLOR} BUG

PASTEL DIP-DYED HAIR IS HOT RIGHT NOW, BUT NOT EVERYONE WANTS THE LOOK TO BE PERMANENT...
that's where Kevin.Murphy's color.bug {now available at Mana} steps in!

Just rub the color-bug compact against the strands of hair you want to turn Technicolor, and it will instantly coat them in its vibrant powder. When you're done, simply wash the color out with water. Streak multiple colors through your mane for a My Little Pony effect, or cover your strands from root to tip to mimic the powdered 'dos from some of the spring '12 shows.

You can also keep it (relatively) simple and just dip your tips to create a punky-pastel effect. There are only three colors available as of right now — pink, purple, and coral — but we're hoping Kevin will introduce more soon.

One word of warning: The powder doesn't have great staying power (hence temporary), so it will rub off on everything. Refrain from touching your hair and definitely don't wear it with your whites, unless you want them to turn into a pastel mess by the end of the night.

keep your COLOUR

AVOID BAD THINGS. HAIR HAS VICES, TOO...
They are: overzealous heat styling, chlorine, excessive washing, and the sun.
If your hair turns green or brassy, wash with a purple-tinted shampoo once a week. And prevent future damage by coating hair in conditioner before you go to the beach or pool.
If your hair turns dry and crunchy from overzealous heat styling, try a deep-conditioning mask once or twice a week at home. If that fails, ask your colourist for an in-salon glossing treatment.

colour CHANGE

HAVING TROUBLE DECIDING WHETHER TO GO DARKER OR LIGHTER?
Here's some tips that will help you find the perfect shade...

GO BLONDE IF YOU...
Have lots of pink in your skin: A cool, baby blonde is gorgeous with rosy skin freshens the face yet prevents the skin from looking too flushed. Conversely, rosy skin (or even just a face full of bubble-gummy makeup) will clash with warm, brown hair.
Want to cut your hair short: When a short haircut is really hot, it's always on a blonde - this is probably partly due to highlights' ability to play up a style's shape.
Need a lift: Going blonde can adds brightness to your look—and your outlook.

GO BRUNETTE IF YOU...
Have very thin hair: Darker strands add dimension and the illusion of thickness to fine, airy hair. To add extra depth, colour the under-layers a slightly richer shade than the top.
Have an olive complexion: No skin tone is better suited to chocolaty strands. A rich brown will counteract your complexion's tendency toward sallowness, as well as make your eyes and teeth look whiter.
Can't deal with high-maintenance hair: Keeping up with lightened locks is costly and time-consuming, while going darker can require as few as two visits a year. Brunettes also have an easier time colouring at home because you're not removing pigment (as you must to go blonde) and don't have to worry about brassiness.
