fake GREAT HAIR

THE SAYING “FAKE IT TILL YOU MAKE IT”
can work wonders on unwashed, untrimmed, unruly hair.
Beyond what we've told you at least a zillion times before—to use a rich conditioner regularly and have your hair trimmed regularly— here are the top tips for faking healthy hair till you make it truly healthy again...

1. Split ends are a dead giveaway of damage. To mend them temporarily, rub a dab of non-liquidy styling cream between your fingers and pinch it over frayed pieces. If you don't have any, conditioner will work, but only use the teeniest-tiniest dab or your ends will look stringy.

2. When your roots are oily and there's no time to shower, nothing sops up the sebum as well as dry shampoo. Powders are less sticky and a bit easier to apply than sprays, but they can result in white patches on your scalp. To ensure an even application, sprinkle the powder onto a fine-tooth comb, then rake it through your roots.

3. If you have broken hairs around your hairline, get a fringe. They also make fine hair look fuller. Just be sure to ask your stylist for a thick, not wispy, set.

4. Flatten out flyaways: Mist a little hair spray between your palms or onto a clean toothbrush, then smooth over. The result won't be as greasy as with a cream or serum, especially if your hair is fine. For really stubborn strands, add a second layer of spray and blow-dry flat on low speed.

5. A glossing treatment leaves hair with the kind of luster you see in shampoo ads—and lasts longer than ordinary shine spray (through several shampoos versus several hours). Bonus: It also helps camouflage gray roots and fading highlights.

update your HAIR COLOUR

SUPER-LIGHT HIGHLIGHTS THAT LOOK PERFECT IN SUMMER
can highlight the wrong things in the winter—like an ashy, pallid complexion. The same thing if your hair is too-dark...
Never fear, here's how winterize your hair colour:
If you're blonde, go more golden and less beige, and ask your colourist to weave both highlights and lowlights throughout your hair for a warmer look.
Light brunettes should consider deepening their hair to a warm chestnut color; dark brunettes, a deep chocolate hue. For both, be sure to ask your colourist for a multidimensional look. If you want highlights, ask for face-framing balayage ones—these hand-painted pieces tend to look more natural on dark hair than do foil streaks.
Amp up red hair with a copper or deep auburn tone—anything but bluish or burgundy, which looks fake. Because red fades quickly, top the colour with a clear glaze to seal it.
Don't go more than two shades lighter or darker—dramatic shaes can look severe against pale winter skin.

blonde AMBITION

THE GORGEOUS ANJA KONSTANTINOVA... WE LOVE HER LOOK!
If you're thinking about going this blonde,
here are a few things to consider...
Don't rush it. First and foremost, is not to move up the colour spectrum too quickly. If you go too light, too fast, your hair can get dry and damaged, which isn't pretty regardless of your hair colour. You may need several visits to the salon to get the shade you're looking for. So be patient, heed your colourist's advice, and move at the pace they recommend.

Bring a picture. This makes it much easier for your stylist to understand what you want and to tailor the colour to your particular hair and skin tone.

Get dirty. Make sure you haven't washed your hair the day you go to the salon. Having a little buildup of oil will create a natural barrier on your scalp, and will make it more comfortable for you when getting colour, especially if you are lightening up your base colour drastically.

Don't try this at home. Don't try going blonde by yourself, especially if you're starting with a dark base - instead give Mana a call: 02 8919 0146 and make an appointment.
