Reminiscing Again: Prada S/S 08 & James Jean

Spring Summer 2008 was clearly and inspiring season for me, as I recently did a reminiscent post about Dolce & Gabanna's S/S '08 show. The Prada 'Trembled Blossoms' collection featured billowy skirts, gingham prints and insane floral sculptured heels - a fashion fairy tale with a dark, moody undertone.
The main selling point of this collection was the iconic illustrations by James Jean, which were somewhat accidentally featured on the clothes and as the backdrop to the campaigns, after he had drawn multiple wallpaper designs for Prada stores.
I've gathered a mix of campaign and runway shots, which you all will probably be familiar with my now due to the collection's popularity, but be sure to check out the video animation and hear James discussing his work with Prada at the end of the post, and Click Here for more of the outstanding James Jean's work.

Reminiscing: Dolce & Gabbana S/S '08

Don't mind me while I just reminisce over the Dolce & Gabbana Spring/Sumer RTW show of 2008. I will always remember these paint splattered dresses, and apparently the lace up shoes stuck in my mind, as I recently purchased some wedges near identical to the black ones from Kurt Geiger.
This collection had a huge influence on my final textiles project at college, and for many other students too. Now I'm looking back, with changed tastes and a more finely tuned eye (as ridiculous as that sounds) I can appreciate other elements of the collection, not just the show-stopping painted ball gowns.

Elie Saab Couture Fall '11

I know this is like a whole week late, but I will never not post Elie Saab Couture, so I have uploaded a selection of the Fall collection.
If I would waltz around in these dresses daily I would be most happy.

hair trend: HAIR HALF UP

THIS LOOK IS STRAIGHT FROM THE RUNWAY...
For Rodarte's recent collection, hairstylist Odile Gilbert created a side-swept style that
incorporated a tiny braid on one side.
To DIY:
1. Create texture by using a styling foam throughout dry hair, twisting and scrunching strands with your fingers as you blow-dry - stop halfway through to spray in some hair spray.
2. Make a strong, slightly imperfect part on the left side of your head, leaving a large section sweeping across your forehead.
3. Bring together two-inch pieces from either side of the part into a very small braid over your right ear and secure the ends with a clear elastic.
4. Pin any long pieces unobtrusively in place, by tucking the ends into the braid.
5. Keep the windblown look from falling out by finishing with a heavy coating of hair spray.
