pony{tail}s on PARADE

PONYTAILS WERE A HUGE TREND AT FASHION WEEK...
From Valentino with its chic ponytail, to Gucci with it's frizzy hair with feather details, or Balmain with a low ponytail, to Proenza with a messy version and Dries Van Noten with its gold band detail...
the classic ponytail, with a twist, is the look this year!

style FILE

WE LOVE THESE 'MESSY' DO'S
To DIY: Spray hair with a Surf Spray, for that really great dry texture, before blowing it dry, scrunching the hair in handfuls. Create a low, pinned knot by dividing hair into two pieces and tying them together like you would with shoe laces—allow a chunk of hair to fall in front of one eye for an“effortless, urban, just-walked-off-the-beach style.
For a variation, like the style below:
Instead of 'tying' your hair, randomly pin top layers up just above the nape of the neck ~ while allowing the underneath layers to hang loose!

signs you NEED A HAIRCUT

IF YOU'RE TOSSING UP WHETHER TO GET YOUR HAIR CUT OR NOT...
here are some signs that may help you make your decision to
pick up the phone and make a booking {with Mana}:

* Your hairstylist cut layers the last time you got your hair cut, and now your hair is nearing one length.

* You've had the exact same length for the past five years. To ensure your dead ends are gone, get a few centimetres chopped.

* Your hair is looking thinner. The longer fine hair grows, the thinner it looks. A shorter cut can give you the appearance of thicker, healthier hair.

* It takes you longer than usual to style your hair. When it never turns out the way you hoped, your cut is getting too long.

the BEEHIVE is back

BEEHIVES WERE ALL OVER THE FALL RUNWAYS...
and while they take a little extra effort, are a great way to get your hair up and off your neck on steamy days. Brush back your strands, then tease a headband of hair from one ear to the other. Whisk the rest of your hair up and over the roughed-up roots, and gather in a French twist for a simplified version of the style. Hairspray is your friend with a look like this. Hold your breath and spritz generously.

sexy SATURDAY NIGHT hair

HERE'S YOUR RECIPE FOR...
seriously simple, perfectly rumpled, amorously-inspired wavy locks!
Step 1: Start with a volumising mousse and blow-dry. Or, if your hair is already dry, dust on some volumising powder or dry shampoo to give roots a little boost.
Step 2: Wrap small sections of hair around a curling iron, but make sure to curl only the middle of the sections—keep the curling iron away from the roots or the ends.
{This is where the easy, laid-back factor comes in: curls that span root-to-tip end up looking less natural and more over-styled}.
Step 3: Brush out curls and finish with hairspray.
Voila - gorgeous!

amp up YOUR PONYTAIL

UN-DONE' HAIR WAS HUGE ON THE CATWALK THIS SEASON...
Here's how you can update / tease your ponytail like in the parades:
* Using the handle side of the comb, separate your fringe (or face-framing layers) from the back of your hair.
* Next, use the comb's teeth to tease the back portion of your hair. Clip the the top layers up and away and start teasing from the bottom, working upward as you release the hair above.
* Once you're done, lightly smooth over the exterior layers of your hair with the comb to tame, and pull the entire back portion into a ponytail. Secure with an elastic.
* Stick the handle end into your ponytail (holding it parallel to the area just above the elastic) and softly tug out a small portion of hair. This will create even more lift and volume.
* To complete the look, tease only the roots of your front layers, and lightly comb out for a cohesive finishing touch.

hot BUNS

THE 'BUN' IS NO LONGER JUST FOR BALLERINAS...
it's been completely transformed - and here's how you can put the 'twist' back into yours'.
1. Pull your hair into a ponytail where you want your bun, then tease the tail.
2. Twist it once, then keep wrapping the hair around itself and pin to secure; the resulting knot should stick out a little from your head.
3. Lightly rub the finished bun with your hands to create a few flyaways for good measure.

5 styles that are HOT RIGHT NOW

Soft Waves
Texture is like an accessory - it transforms your look. To get these full, gorgeous waves, spritz damp roots with a volumizer and blow-dry while using a round brush. Then curl small sections with a midsize iron, leaving ends out. Scrunch with pomade; blend with a wide-tooth comb.

Swingy and Straight
The trick to this not-too-flat take on straight: Skip the flatiron, which can make hair look lifeless. Instead, spritz a volumizer onto damp hair and make a centre part. Grip one-inch sections from the front and the crown with a round brush, and drag from roots to ends with a blow-dryer. (Work with bigger pieces in the back to save time.) Mist with a shine spray for gloss.

The Fashion-Week Special
No time to shampoo? Try this runway-inspired look: Apply a gel to dry hair and smooth it back with a fine-tooth comb. Slip on a wide cotton headband to keep hair in place while you curl the back with a small curling iron. Brush through coils for volume and slip off the band (add pins to hold hair back if necessary). For an even bigger boost, tease the bottom layers.

Rock ‘n’ Roll Bedhead
For this sexy look, follow the same basic steps slide 2. But instead of gripping hair and pulling it straight down, wind it loosely around the barrel of a round brush and hit it with a blow-dryer to get a bit of bend. Then, for volume, spritz dry shampoo onto roots after you blow-dry. Pull hands through hair to distribute product and create texture. Use hairspray to set.

The Quick Slick-Back
Feeling brave? Mix gel with a serum and run it through damp hair, then sleekify with a brush or comb. (If the full wet look is too much, slick into a bun or low pony.)

designer campaign STYLE

COPY-CAT LATEST DESIGNER AD CAMPAIGN HAIR TRENDS WITH THESE DIY TIPS...
Dior's Coiled Curls
Model Karlie Kloss's lush, volumised curls have us lusting for hair with mega bounce, but these curls need some prep work and tools to get it right. Here's how get the look:
Create a centre part, then apply a mousse or volumising product as a foundation and blow dry. Use a 3/4” to 1 1/2” curling iron (hair sections shouldn’t be any wider than the size of your iron), and create an even curl pattern through the length of the hair: wrap the hair, starting a few inches away from the roots and down to the ends. Release the iron and re-wrap each section by hand and clip at the base with a pin-curl clip. Spray with hairspray, let the curls set for a minute or two, then un-clip and fluff.

Bally's Sleek Chic
There's nothing like an extreme side part to edge up a simple, sleek look. Start with a smoothing shampoo and conditioner then blow dry straight. Add a little volumizing powder or dry shampoo at the roots, then create your side part. For a super smooth finish, apply a small amount of shine pomade.

YSL's Retro Redux
Give your bob a kinky twist with some finger wave-inspired movement. Apply a gel to damp hair, create a side part, and add wave clips horizontally, just above the ears, into hair to create the kink effect. Let hair air dry naturally or blow dry on low, and then remove the clips. Apply a molding product to tame flyaways and help mold the wave. You can also use a flatiron to create the above-the-ear kink effect, too.

Roberto Cavalli's Artfully Tousled Waves
We're loving Joan Small's perfectly messy "whip my hair" waves, and if you already have curly or wavy hair, a little beach spray and a diffuser will do the trick. If not, here are some how-to tips on to create a tousled, reverse wave: "Instead of a regular, round wave, the reverse wave is flat and goes in the opposite direction after every (or every other) "S" pattern, meaning the wave isn't symmetrical. Wrap the hair—starting at mid-length—around the curling iron's barrel once or twice. Then go the reverse direction and continue this pattern to the ends. The overall finish still has volume but is a bit more natural looking.
