salon SLEEKNESS

WANT SUPER SLEEK HAIR?
HERE ARE OUR STEPS TO BLOW-DRY LIKE A PRO...

* Apply a twenty cent sized dollop of straightening balm to clean, wet hair before you start to towel dry. The excess water will help distribute the balm evenly and prevent product overload.

* Blot hair dry with towel to avoid damaging the hair shaft.

* Detangle locks with a wide-tooth comb – starting at the ends and working up to the roots to avoid any knots damaging your hair.

* Blow-dry hair haphazardly until it’s at least 80 percent dry. Sopping wet hair takes too long to blow dry - and won’t hold your style.

* Separate your hair into small, workable sections, then use your brush to pull each section taut as you dry it completely starting from your roots working your way to the ends. Always aim the dryer down the hair shaft - it helps the hair cuticle lie flat which is the trick to sleek hair.

* Once dry, blast your hair with cool air to seal the cuticles, then spritz lightly with shine spray.

hair MOVEMENT

INSIDER INFO...
Hair that has movement, and doesn't fall flat, makes you look younger because it creates the illusion
of high cheekbones and eyes that are awake.

Here's how to get 'movement' in your hair at home...
When hair is damp, flip your head upside down, spray a texturiser on palms, and rake fingers through roots, lifting hair away from your scalp as you blow-dry. When only your roots are dry, flip upright and you'll see instant volume. Then, as you dry the rest of your hair, stretch out strands with a nylon-bristle brush—follow through from root to tip, flicking ends upward to add subtle curve.

Extra tip: Blow-drying small sections of hair lets you extend strands more efficiently.

super-sleek HAIR TRICK

WANT SMOOTHER, SHINIER HAIR? GIVE THIS A GO...
Fix fly-aways and the frizzies by hitting the 'cool' button on your hairdryer and giving your hair a shot of cold air for a couple of minutes - after it's dry - to seal and smooth strands. It will also boost shine - as light reflects best off a flat surface - and will help your hair hold its style better.

frizz FIGHTERS

OUR TOP 5 TIPS TO HELP YOU FIGHT FRIZZ...

1. STAY HYDRATED. Frizz occurs when dry hair absorbs water from the air, but cream-based moisturizing shampoo and conditioner can prevent it—just be sure to rinse well so hair doesn't look dull or greasy. And lather up only a few times a week: the natural oils that accumulate in the meantime are good frizz-fighters.

2. DRY THE RIGHT WAY. To keep waves smooth, apply styling lotion to damp hair, then let it air-dry—and resist the urge to tousle. The more you put your hands through it, the more likely you are to create frizz. To make straight hair sleek, point the dryer toward the ends— going against the grain, even a little, can cause frizz. And keep blow-drying until every bit of dampness is gone.

3. COAT WITH CAUTION. Use silicone drops or spray to combat frizz, but don't overdose. Apply a drop or spritz to your palms first, then rub them together and pat them over frizz, starting at the ends and working toward the crown (you can always add more later).

4. OIL WELL. To further ward off frizz, give your hair a twice-weekly oil treatment. Work about a tablespoon through dry hair, first with your hands, then with a synthetic-bristle paddle brush. Leave it on for as long as possible before shampooing as usual; even five to ten minutes helps.

5. CUT AND COLOUR CORRECTLY. Avoid overlayering, which makes short pieces stick out and get fuzzy. If you have coarse or curly hair, stay away from razor cuts, as they rough up the cuticle and exacerbate frizz. By contrast, nearly blunt cuts can help weigh down frizz. As for colour, steer clear of a full head of highlights or a solid blonde: bleaching deteriorates the outer layer of the hair, making it coarser and frizzier.
